The driver and passenger of the SUV involved were taken to hospital for minor injuries and have since been released.

The horse was not injured in the collision, police said.

Preliminary investigation has found that the horse and buggy had been travelling west on Howick-Turnberry when it veered into the path of the oncoming vehicle, police said.

Investigation into the cause is ongoing. Police closed Howick-Turnberry Road from London Road (Huron County #4) in Wingham and Belmore Line (Huron County #12) for several hours, but say it has since reopened.
