MONTREAL – What’s the best way to avoid traffic headaches and steer clear of orange cones in this city?
The answer is simple, leave your car at home!
On Friday, Montreal joins hundreds of cities around the world taking part in Car-Free Day.
The event is designed to encourage people to use public transportation.
Every year a different part of the city is closed off to automobiles and for the eleventh edition, it’s Old Montreal.
That means no cars can pass through St. Antoine St. W. between University and St. Alexandre St. between 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Square Victoria and McGill between Viger Ave. W. and St. Jacques St. W. will be closed between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
Parking is prohibited on the following streets for the next 24 hours:
- Saint-Antoine W between Univeristy and Saint-Alexandre
- Viger W between University adn Saint-Alexandre
- Square-Victoria
- Beaver Hall Hill between René-Lévesque W. and Viger W.plan
- McGill between Saint-Maurice and Saint-Jacques
From 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., motorists coming from the Bonaventure Expressway will have to exit at Wellington to take Notre-Dame Street or continue to René-Lévesque due to the closure of Saint-Antoine Street.
