Edmonton – Smartphone fans lined up outside stores across Edmonton Friday morning to be the first to snag Apple’s newest incarnations of the iPhone.
The tech giant has released the 5-S and the 5-C. It’s the first time Apple has introduced two distinct iPhone models at the same time.
The smartphones went on sale at 8 a.m. Local time Friday at Apple retail stores in Canada and around the world.

The lineup outside of the Apple store in Southgate mall went literally outside of one of the mall’s entrances.
Fraser Smith jumped in line at 5:15 a.m. to get his hands on the iPhone 5-S.
“I know for me, my phone plan finished in August so I figured I’d wait for the new one,” says Smith.
The iPhone 5-S sports a fingerprint sensor, a better camera and a faster processor.
The 5-C model is largely last year’s iPhone 5 with a few extras, a choice of five colours – and the housing is made of plastic instead of aluminum and glass.
Apple is selling the 16 GB 5-S for $719 without a contract. The cheaper 5-C model is priced at $599 for 16 GB.
