37-year-old man dead after shooting in Toronto

Toronto police say a 37-year-old man is dead after a shooting in the city Sunday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Weston Road and Highway 401 at 5:51 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

Police said officers found a man was found with gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital in serious condition and police had initially said he was stabilized. However, officers later said he died at the hospital.

He has since been identified as Toronto resident Ariyo Fakomi. His death marks Toronto’s first homicide of 2022.

There is no word on any suspects.

Police are appealing for anyone who was driving on Weston Road between Highway 401 and Jane Street on Sunday between 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. and has dashcam footage to contact officers.
