Oakridge Co-op store closes after more food tampering

For the second time in a month, a Calgary Co-op store in the southwest has closed after product tampering was discovered.

A customer returned to the store Wednesday night with carrots containing a foreign metal object.

Calgary Police were notified, and the Oakridge Co-op closed so employees could search the entire store, where they found a couple of other pieces of produce that had been tampered with.

Co-op assures customers that they have removed all tampered items from their store; however, if customers are uneasy, they should feel free to return any items they have purchased.

"We want to make sure that our customers understand we are doing our due-diligence that we need to do to ensure their safety. If they have any questions about products they may have purchased yesterday, we will give them a full refund", says Sarah Boutron from Calgary Co-op.

Police were already investigating after an incident in mid-January when employees found pins in cheese and bulk items.

The Oakridge store has since re-opened.
