No stone was left unturned as a Google vehicle slowly canvassed Regina last summer taking photos of every inch of every street. Now, through a simple Google search, you can wander down Albert street, take a stroll through Wascana Park, and even look at your own house.
However, this latest technology does raise some privacy concerns. Saskatchewan’s Privacy Commissioner, Gary Dickson, says steps have been taken to avoid potential privacy nightmares. "The obvious things would be if a woman is coming out of a centre abused spouses or a woman’s shelter. She could be recognized."
Regina isn’t the only Saskatchewan community now on Street View. Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Prince Albert are among several other towns and cities where people can find their own homes or favourite tourist destinations.
