Squamish resident dies after paragliding accident at Stawamus Chief

Squamish RCMP say a 36-year-old man died on Saturday afternoon in a paragliding accident at The Chief.

Squamish RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride says the investigation is ongoing, but it appears the man fell to his death.

He was with a group of people that had made a successful jump just prior to this one, says Pride.

The man’s body had to be airlifted out by helicopter.

The group was on a remote part of the The Chief, around the back, which Pride says is a very difficult to get to.

He says they have not have a paragliding death in years on The Chief.

“People that do [paragliding] are very experienced and well trained,” he says.
