SASKATOON – It may still look like a construction zone, but the countdown is on for the Saskatoon Police Service to move into their new headquarters in downtown’s warehouse district.
The service is expected to get possession of the building on 25th Street and Ontario Avenue in November and move in during January 2014.
Construction started nearly a two-years ago, but planning began much before that. It was initiated in 1996, and blueprints were drawn in 2009.

The current headquarters was built in 1977 for 300 staff and more than 30 years later the service has around 650 staff working in rented buildings throughout the city.
“Right now, we’re in 90,000 square feet in our main building, and we have five other places we lease for approximately $1,000,000 every year, so it’s going to be awesome to get into this building at 350,000 square feet and everyone can be in one place,” said S/Sgt. and Project Liaison Officer Susan Grant.
The new headquarters is environmentally friendly and will offer a number of new features including a training gym, underground parking and state of the art technology.
The 25th Street expansion and surrounding roads are on target to be completed with the police station this fall.
