Two people were killed during a serious crash on Highway 401 in Kingston, South Frontenac OPP say.
According to police, around 1 a.m. Wednesday, a transport truck going eastbound crossed over the centre median, entered the westbound lanes and collided with several other transport trucks. OPP said in total, four trucks were involved, with one of them pulling two trailers.
Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, OPP say, while another driver was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Thursday, OPP identified the two people who died from the crash as 41-year-old Oliver Czuppon of Mississauga and 61-year-old Charles Martin from Saint Valerien, Que.
“The driver of the transport truck that veered off into the westbound lane and one driver in the westbound lane were pronounced dead at the scene,” said Const. Richard Martin.
“One driver was taken to local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and one driver sustained no injuries.”
The westbound lanes of Highway 401 from Gardiners Road to County Road 6 were closed for more than 24 hours for the investigation of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
