Surrey woman attacked while walking to work speaks out

A 19-year-old Surrey woman is speaking out today after she was viciously attacked while she was on her way to work.

Sarah Woodington was walking to work at 5:45 a.m. along Scott Road and 102 Avenue on September 4 when four attackers jumped her by an underpass, beat her and made off with her belongings.

“They honked at me, did a u-turn, drove back up and one of the girls jumped out the car and asked for my phone and started hitting me,” Woodington says. “I hit her back and then the other girl and guy came out of the car and joined in and took the rest of my stuff. I ran the rest of the way to work.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Woodington’s father, Michael says more needs to be done along this particular stretch of road to make it safer for residents since along with the attack on his daughter, there was another assault in the area about a month ago involving a male victim.

“I’d like to see more lighting on the pass,” Michael says. “… there are two lights at the underpass but there are homeless people and drug users, and they usually break out the lights right away.”

Surrey RCMP say this is not a high-crime area, they are aware of the case and they are continuing their investigation on it.

In the meantime Woodington says she hasn’t returned to work yet but will be hopefully looking at alternative ways to get there.

She says there three or four people in a white car and describes the suspects as caucasian, possibly late teens and two were females.
