Attendance at the PNE dropped about seven per cent this year, compared to last, according to new statistics released by the fair today.
The PNE wrapped up yesterday, attracting 712,049 guests. Last year, the fair attracted 763,689 guests.
Two power outages, wet weather and regular Monday closures are thought to have accounted for the attendance drop of about 50,000 fair-goers this year.
“Overall we were very pleased with the experience our guests received despite the operational challenges of two power outages and some rain on a couple of key fair days,” says PNE President and CEO Michael McDaniel.
The PNE reduced gate and parking prices by average of 20 per cent this year in an attempt to lure back visitors, whose numbers have been dropping in recent years.
The annual fair plans to close again next year on Mondays.
