Toronto police say a man found lying on an east-end road Friday evening has died after he was hit by a car.
Emergency crews were called to Neilson Road near Oakmeadow Boulevard, just south of Highway 401, at around 8:20 p.m.
Insp. Michael Williams said the car was travelling southbound on Neilson Road when the collision happened.
“It struck this male who was actually lying in a live lane of traffic at the time,” he said, adding the man suffered “catastrophic injuries.”
“The driver of that vehicle has remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators from our collision reconstruction unit and is obviously traumatized by what’s taken place.”
Williams said the man injured might have been unclothed at the time and that some belongings possibly belonging to the man were found at the side of the road.
He said officers were looking to retrieve dash-cam video from a TTC bus that was in the area at the time.
However, Williams appealed to anyone else who was in the area and might have video or information to contact officers at 43 Division.
Police closed the road near where the man was struck as officers gathered evidence.
