Marguerite Blais, Quebec’s minister responsible for seniors and informal caregivers, is taking a leave of absence.
Jean-Charles Del Duchetto, a spokesman for Blais, said she is taking around a month off at the recommendation of her doctor due to an infection that is causing pain in one of her legs.
“She’s taking a month to regain her strength, to heal the problem with her leg,” he said in an interview Tuesday.

Del Duchetto said Blais is not suffering from burnout and that the pain in her leg has had a negative affect on her overall health.
Earlier on Tuesday, Premier François Legault told reporters in Amos, Que. that Blais will return to her office around Sept. 20.
Legault said he was not concerned and that Health Minister Christian Dubé will take over Blais’ duties until she returns.
