Edmonton election 2021: Candidates running for mayor and council

Edmontonians will head to the polls on Monday, Oct. 18 in the 2021 municipal election.

With the campaign season now underway, there are dozens of people vying for a seat on Edmonton city council. The city will also have a new mayor, after Don Iveson announced late last year he will not seek re-election.

Council will see at least four new faces on council, as current councillors Scott McKeen, Ben Henderson and Michael Walters are not seeking re-election, and Mike Nickel is running for mayor.

In total, 11 people are running for mayor and 74 candidates are running for city council. Eight people are running to become Edmonton Catholic School Board trustees, six of whom have been acclaimed. There are 40 people running to become Edmonton Public School Board trustees.

Advance voting will take place from Oct. 4 to Oct. 13, including Thanksgiving Monday (Oct. 11).
