Vancouver is the world’s third-most liveable city, according to the Economist.

The magazine’s annual ranking consistently places Vancouver in the top five, and the city was the #1 most liveable city surveyed until 2011.

The number one city in the world in which to live according to the magazine is Melbourne, Australia, followed by Vienna, Austria.

Toronto and Calgary came in at #4 and #5, respectively.

Vancouver achieved an overall 97.3 rating out of 100, made up of “stability” (95); “healthcare” (100); “culture and environment” (100); “education” (100); and “infrastructure” (92.9).

Not surprisingly, the city with the lowest livability score this year is Damascus, Syria; followed by Dhaka, Bangladesh; and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The magazine says most changes in livability in recent years have been driven by civil unrest.
