New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Jennifer Russell, reported three new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday and said 24 active cases remain, which is the lowest reported since early January of this year.
At a COVID-19 briefing, Russell said over the past month, the number of active cases and reports of severe illness has significantly declined, due to the high number of people getting vaccinated.
As of Wednesday, 33.6 per cent of eligible New Brunswickers have received two doses of the vaccine, while 77.8 per cent have received one dose.
“This is very good news. If we can keep up our current pace, we’ll have 75 per cent fully vaccinated by the end of July,” said Russell.
New cases
Public Health reported three new cases of COVID-19, with two cases in Zone 1 (Moncton region) and another in Zone 3 (Fredericton region).
In the Moncton region, one case is related to travel and the other case is a contact of a previously-confirmed case.
The one case in the Fredericton region is related to travel.
The total number of confirmed cases in New Brunswick is 2,332. Since Tuesday, four people have recovered for a total of 2,262 recoveries.
There have been 45 deaths. Four patients are hospitalized in New Brunswick.
The province said on Tuesday, 658 tests were conducted for a total of 362,635.
