Pilot presumed dead after float plane crashes in Northwest Territories

A float plane pilot is missing and presumed dead following a crash in the Northwest Territories.

The Transwest flight was reported overdue to Scott Lake Lodge at 8:30 p.m. Thursday night.

A Hercules search and rescue plane was dispatched and located the wreckage in a body of water near its destination.

The pilot was the lone occupant of the aircraft.

An RCMP dive team is being assembled and officials with the Transportation Safety Board are enroute to the scene.

Transwest Air has bases throughout Saskatchewan and commonly services outfitting lodges in the province’s north and beyond.
