B.C. reports 56 new COVID-19 cases as seven-day average drops to 90

There were 56 cases of COVID-19 in the province and no additional deaths, B.C. health officials announced during a live press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday marked the fourth consecutive day the province reported fewer than 100 new cases. The province’s seven-day moving average of daily cases has dropped to 90, the lowest level since Aug. 31.

Of the new cases, 12 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 18 were in the Fraser Health region, three were in Island Health, 17 were in Interior Health, and seven were in Northern Health.

The province’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 1,743.

After reporting a significant decline in hospitalizations on Monday, the number of people in hospital with COVID-19 rose by three to 111. Forty-one of those patients are in intensive care, a decline of six from Monday.

There have been a total of 147,187 cases of COVID-19 in B.C. since the start of the pandemic, of which 1,150 are active.

Tuesday’s press briefing will be the only one this week as health officials transition from two in-person updates a week to one. Weekly briefings are currently scheduled for Tuesdays.
