Police say a black bear on the loose in Ottawa has been safely tranquilized and relocated after 24 hours roaming the city’s south-end neighbourhoods.
Earl Mulligan Drive was closed between Woodroffe Avenue and Woodgate Way for much of Monday as police kept tabs on the bear, which had nestled into a Barrhaven resident’s backyard.
Police said they were waiting on expertise from Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources before attempting to move the bear, which appeared to be injured.
In an update at 7:30 p.m., police said the bear had been successfully moved to a “more suitable environment.”
