The Michigan native went on to become the first Raider to go first overall in the NHL draft when he was selected by the then Minnesota North Stars in 1988.
Modano went on to have a stellar NHL career and is the all-time goal scorer and points leader for an American born player.
“I am extremely honoured by this gesture from the Raiders organization,” said Modano.
In conjunction with the jersey retirement, the City of Prince Albert has proclaimed the weekend “Mike Modano Weekend.”
Along with appearing at the game on Nov. 1, Modano will be the guest speaker at the Kinsmen Sportsman Dinner on Nov. 2.
The dinner honours the top male and female athletes of the year in the city along with the sportsman of the year.
