Change to Crowchild Trail aims to ease congestion

CALGARY – A traffic pilot project that’s supposed to relieve congestion on Crowchild Trail is now underway.

The left hand turn lane from northbound Crowchild Trail onto 24th Avenue N.W. will be closed from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m., Monday to Friday until the end of November.

The City of Calgary hopes the change will allow the traffic lights at the intersection to stay green for longer, allowing southbound commuter traffic to travel uninterrupted with shorter backups.

Meanwhile, The City will also add a dual turning lane from eastbound 24 Avenue N.W. to northbound Crowchild Trail N.W. which should be completed by the fall. This will be a permanent change and is not part of the signal pilot.
