The riding of Alfred-Pellan encompasses the eastern part of the city of Laval and includes the neighbourhoods of Duvernay, Pont-Viau, Saint-François and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul.

Alfred-Pellan is named after a prominent Quebec 20th-century painter.

After the creation of the riding in 2003, the Bloc Québécois was in power for three consecutive terms before losing the seat to the NDP in 2011 during the orange wave.

Liberal MP Angelo Iacono won the Montreal-area riding in 2015. He was re-elected in 2019, garnering 47.9 per cent of the vote, a slight jump from 2015.

Iacono faced former professional hockey player and Conservative candidate Angelo Esposito, who was considered to be a star candidate for the Tories.
