The future of nearly two dozen hectares of prime real estate in the province is being kept secret and it has residents concerned. Jericho Lands, located on the west side of Vancouver, and partially owned by the federal government has been approved for sale.
The process of releasing crown property has been underway for some time but what the land is worth, what the plans are for development or what the site will look like is unknown.
The property includes a military garrison, historic buildings, lush grounds, trees and a childcare facility.
The Vancouver City Council has had no input or involvement in the sale and they’re hoping they’ll have a say in what could be significant changes to an important piece of property, says Vancouver City Councillor Andrea Reimer.
At the end of September, the federal government will start negotiating with the affected First Nations.
