SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon is asking council to approve the sale of the current headquarters of Saskatoon Police Service.

The city had planned to use the police building for office space once police moved to its new headquarters on 25th Street but have since realized it’s too small to meet the city’s long-term needs.

Instead, administration is looking for approval to purchase the Vecima building to meet those needs.

“We’ve been investigating accommodations options for some time now, and the Vecima building will meet both our short- and long-term needs for at least the next 20 years,” said City Manage Murray Totland.

Buying the building would cost $13.4 million.

Staff currently located in leased offices throughout the city would move to the new property, reducing lease fees by around one-million dollars annually and approximately $33 million over the next 20 years.
