The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirms it has been called out to the community of Agassiz after a child was found to be in medical distress.
Agassiz RCMP officers were initially called to a home in Harrison Mills, west of Agassiz, by the BC Ambulance Service just before 5 p.m. on Friday.
They had responded to a medical emergency involving an 11-year-old boy, IHIT confirmed.
The child was taken to hospital in critical condition but is not expected to survive, RCMP said in a release.
They have now called in IHIT to take control of the investigation.
Cpl. Frank Jang of IHIT confirmed Monday the boy had “suspicious injuries” and that is why they have taken control of the incident.
Jang said the boy’s injuries were “extensive.”
They believe it was an isolated incident with no threat to the public.
He did not release any further details.
