Hydro-Quebec restoring service after hundreds of thousands left without power

MONTREAL – After over 400,000 were left without power on Monday afternoon, Hydro-Quebec has confirmed that fewer than 70,000 customers are still without power.

“Our teams are gradually restoring service,” it noted on Twitter.

Louis Olivier Batty, a spokesperson from Hydro-Quebec, told Global News that the cause of the outages was related to a transmission line going down after it was struck by lightning in the Churchill Falls area.

He noted that Hydro-Quebec officials expect full service to resume by early evening.
