MONTREAL – Fewer than 9,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without lights and air conditioning early Thursday because of a brief but intense storm.
That was down from about 60,000 customers affected at the height of the outages on Wednesday afternoon, primarily in Montreal and to the south and southeast of the city.

Most of the remaining outages are to the west and north of he city.
Hydro-Quebec did not indicate when all repairs would be completed.
Environment Canada had issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the affected areas with wind gusts up to 40 kilometres per hour.
The thunderstorm accidentally set off the foam fire system at the Air Creebec facility next to Trudeau International Airport, radio station CJAD said on its website. Pieces of foam could be spotted flying on to adjacent Highway 13.
