A woman faces charges after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that police say fled the scene in Peterborough on Saturday night.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Romaine Street, just east of Park Street, at around 8:20 p.m.

Paramedics and firefighters treated a woman in her 30s at the scene for a leg injury before taking her to hospital for further treatment.

Several people who live in the area also came to help after hearing a “loud bang“ outside.

Police say on Sunday, the driver in the incident attend the Peterborough Police Service’s station where she was arrested.

Gabrielle Richards, 24, of Peterborough was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop after an accident.

She was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 25, police said Monday.
