Are you ready for a winter storm, Quebec?
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for a large swath of the province, including Montreal, Quebec City, the Eastern Townships, Lanaudière and the Gaspé.
The weather agency warns a developing low-pressure system will make its way up the U.S. Eastern Seaboard on Tuesday and turn into a “major storm.”
The blast of wintry weather is expected to begin that day and continue into Wednesday.
“Snow combined with strong winds is also expected to generate local blowing snow,” the statement reads. “Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 centimetres are possible, mainly from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.”

Montreal is being largely spared. Other regions, including Quebec City and the surrounding areas, could see up to 30 centimetres of snow by the end of the storm. Meanwhile, the Eastern Townships is expected to get anywhere between 20 to 35 centimetres of snow.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” the weather agency says in a warning for some areas.
“Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.”
The good news, for Montreal at least, is that means the relentless chill that has settled over the city is coming to an end in the coming days. Temperature highs for the area stand around 0 to -2 C.
