Michael Ignatieff is on TV and he says right off the top that his party is not seeking an election, but rather an end to the confrontations in the House of Commons.
Ignatieff went on to say that the Liberal’s insistence on the reports to Parliament, as a condition to the party’s support of the Conservative budget, which is opposed by the NDP and the Bloc, proves that the Liberals are not cooperating with the rest of the opposition. "There is no coalition," he said.
And he went on to say the EI issue has yet to be resolved, and they are seeking to review the Conservatives EI plans "now" before Parliament takes a summer break, in order for the Liberals to "allow" the government "to proceed."
He also took issue with the government claims that "the majority" of infrastructure funds were pushed out the door within 120 days.
Ignatieff took a moment to remind viewers that the Conservatives "squandered" the $12-billion surplus that his government inherited from the Chretien/Martin years.
The Liberal leader said Canadians are "entitled to know" what the government’s plan for deficit reduction are, noting they dropped an earlier pledge to get out of deficit in five years.
