Traffic in Halifax’s north-end was congested as a fire forced officials to shut down parts of Agricola Street on Friday morning.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency services were able to arrive at the scene of the fire, located between two buildings in the 5700 block of West Street, within minutes of it being reported just after 7 a.m. as the nearest station was only blocks away.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency district chief Brad Connors told Global News that crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and prevent it from extending into the Commons Inn.
However, the exterior of the building did receive some damage.
There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
Connors said approximately five crews were at the scene to battle the blaze.
Police redirected traffic in the area as firefighters worked.
Officers closed Agricola Street between Roberts and Sarah streets and West Street between Maynard and John streets to traffic although they have since reopened.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
