The emergency department of Sturgeon Community Hospital was put on lockdown Wednesday after a patient involved in a shooting was brought in.

Just before 1:45 p.m., St. Albert RCMP said they responded to a call about a man who had been shot at an unknown location and was being taken to the hospital, which is located northwest of Edmonton in St. Albert.

Police said the facility chose to take precautionary measures and initiate their own lockdown. The lockdown was lifted at 4:45 p.m., according to Alberta Health Services.

RCMP have since determined the shooting happened in the south parting lot of the Century Casino near Carswell Street. Police said this was an isolated incident and the general public was not at risk.
