Murder charge laid in death of 25-year-old Kettle and Stony Point First Nation man: OPP

Lambton County OPP say one person has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death Sunday of a 25-year-old Kettle and Stony Point First Nation man.

In a brief update Tuesday, provincial police stated they had taken a suspect into custody without incident the day before in Amherstburg, Ont., with the help of Windsor police.

The accused, identified as Evan Wolfe, 26, of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, faces a charge of first-degree murder, police said.

Provincial police say they and Anishinabek Police Service responded to an incident Sunday on Kettle and Stony Point First Nation and located one person who was pronounced dead at the scene.

They have since been identified by police as Jonathan Shawkence, 25, of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.

Police issued a public alert Sunday afternoon, asking residents to be aware that a suspect was on the run and was considered armed and dangerous.

In their update on Tuesday, OPP said the Windsor Police Service’s Amherstburg detachment responded to a call for service on Monday that “yielded information” suggesting the suspect was in their area.

Windsor police contained an area in Amherstburg and “were able to locate and arrest the suspect without incident,” OPP said.

The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with information to call OPP or APS at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
