Cop watchdog investigating after man dead, 9 shots fired on TTC streetcar

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has assigned six investigators to investigate the shooting death of a man by police early Saturday morning.

The incident took place in the Dundas Street West and Bathurst area at around 12:10 a.m.

Police and SIU confirm that officers responded to a call about a knife-wielding man on a street car.

According to the SIU, there was an interaction between the man and police.

Officers reportedly fired nine shots and used a tazer to subdue the man while he was still on board the street car.

The man was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital  with a gunshot wound on an emergency run, where he was later pronounced dead.

It is believed no one else was present on the streetcar and that the street car operator was not in danger.

Dundas Street has reopened after being closed both directions from Claremont Street to Grace Street.
