Cary Elwes joins Quebec director’s sci-fi drama ‘Horizon’

TORONTO — Cary Elwes has joined the cast of Horizon, a sci-fi drama pilot that will shoot in Toronto in August.

The Princess Bride star will play the lead role in the pilot, which is being directed by Quebec filmmaker Yves Simoneau for the USA Network.

The London-born Elwes was last in Toronto to make 2010’s Saw 3D.

Horizon, which is being produced for USA Network, also stars Ruth Bradley (Primeval), Meg Chambers Steedle (Boardwalk Empire), Taylor Handley (Vegas) and Mark Famiglietti (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines).

Set during World War II, it revolves around an FBI secretary (Bradley) who suspects her husband was killed in a battle with aliens in the South Pacific.

Cameras are scheduled to roll in Toronto from Aug. 6 to 30.

USA Network, owned by NBCUniversal parent company Comcast, already makes the legal drama Suits  and crime series Covert Affairs in the city.
