Montreal grocery store chain target of third arson attack

Watch: Raw video from the scene where a Montreal grocery store chain was firebombed

MONTREAL – A Montreal grocery store was the target of what police are describing as an arson attack on Wednesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the EuroMarché on St. Michel Boulevard in Montreal North at 3:30 a.m. after receiving a call when the fire alarms went off.

The fire had nearly been extinguished by the store’s internal sprinkler system when firefighters arrived. They noticed a broken front window and contacted the arson unit.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

“I spoke earlier with the owner,” Montreal police spokesperson Constable Simon Delorme confirmed.

“There’s been no threat made against this man, the arson seems to be coming from nowhere.”

Police have no suspects at this time and according to Delorme, no one was seen leaving the scene.

“We will have more information after the arson unit investigates.”

This is the third time the grocery-store chain has been the target of an arson attack. On July 17, the EuroMarché on Fleury W. was firebombed and in November 27, the EuroMarché in Ahuntsic was targeted, causing significant damage to the store and apartments above.
