Charges recommended against 352nd Stanley Cup riot suspect, including two 14 y/o boys

Vancouver Police and riot investigators say they requested 118 charges against 27 new suspected rioters.

This brings the total of recommended charges to 1204 offences against 352 suspected rioters.

Two 14-year-old boys have been caught up in this latest round of charges. They are facing a combined total of six charges of break and enter, two of mischief, one count of mischief over $5,000 and two counts of participating in a riot.

Charges of participating in a riot, B&E and assault have been recommended against a  25-year-old Port Coquitlam woman for allegedly assaulting a bystander attempting to protect a police car.

Police say a woman was protecting a police car in the 600-block of Seymour Street when the accused woman was caught on video chasing her with a broken chair leg.

Bystanders intervened and prevented the assault, according to police. However, a short time later, police say the woman is seen on video going up to the Good Samaritan and punching her in the face.

She suffered facial and dental injuries.

The accused woman was later caught on video entering the Bay department store, which was heavily damaged and looted in the riot.

Charges have also been recommended against a 24-year-old Langley man who was had been released with conditions in connection with multiple firearms charges. Police say the man was captured on video assaulting an unknown man on the ground while he was being swarmed.

The Langley man was under house arrest and not allowed to live his residence at the time of the riot.  Police allege after the swarming attack, the accused broke into the Bay department store.

Three people, described by police as “high school friends from Victoria” are facing a combined 15 recommended charges in connection with the riot. Police say they were captured on video breaking into four different businesses.

One of the men also allegedly damaged a vehicle parked in the 600-block of Seymour Street. Later that night, police allege the men were spotted on Skytrain with stolen merchandise still with the security tags attached. Police later determined the items matched items stolen in the store break-ins.

Police say they are happy to see charges have been laid by Crown against 22-year-old Daniel Amesbury of Maple Ridge.

Amesbury is the 14th suspect charged by the Crown out of the 15 suspects identified by riot investigators in the swarming of Good Samaritan Robert Mackay.

Mackay was lauded as a hero in the aftermath of the riot.

He was trying to protect the windows of the Bay department store when he was swarmed and assaulted. The incident was caught on video and gained worldwide attention.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and more charges are on the way.

“Our investigation is not ending,” says VPD Superintendent Dean Robinson.

“For those rioters out there that believe they can wait us out and hide with anonymity, we will find you and you will be brought to justice.”

Police say they are disappointed with the actions of charged and convicted rioters.

They say random checks found that out of 173 rioters checked, 28 were found to be breaching their conditions and have since been charged with 51 counts of breach.
