Part of Highway 7 reopens after shooting in Vaughan

York Regional Police say a portion of Highway 7 that was closed following a shooting in Vaughan on Thursday morning, is now reopen to traffic.

Police said the shooting happened at around 2:40 a.m. when one vehicle with two occupants driving along Highway 7 at Nova Star Drive were shot at by the suspect in another vehicle.

Investigators said a man inside was struck, meanwhile a female occupant was not injured.

The man sustained serious injuries but is in stable condition, police said.

Police said the two victims attempted to drive to a hospital but stopped and called 911 near Highway 50 in Peel Region.

York police said they were first notified of the shooting by Peel Regional Police service.

Highway 7 was closed in both directions between Weston Road and Whitmore Road. It reopened just after 1:30 p.m.

There was a heavy police presence in the area as officers conducted their investigation.

Officers are asking anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact police. Investigators are also asking anyone with video from the area or dashcam footage to call police.
