A Burlington man died in hospital after he was hit by a car at a race track in Cayuga, Ont., on Saturday, according to police.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the incident happened at Toronto Motorsports Park on Kohler Road around 1 p.m. at a “sanctioned” race event.
Investigators say the 59-year-old man was hit as cars were approaching a starting line. Initially, the injured pedestrian was flown by Ornge air ambulance to an out of town hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The deceased has since been identified as Richard Ennest, owner of Mister Transmission in Burlington, according to the Race Cayuga Sportsman Series’s Facebook page.
“No words can express the sorrow and heartache the racing community is feeling right now,” the group said in a Facebook post.
Ennest was the father of three, according to members.
