Peel Regional Police say a cyclist under the age of 18 is dead after he was hit by a transport truck in Mississauga on Tuesday.
Police said they were called to the intersection of Dixie and Blundell roads, south of Dundas Street, around 10:45 a.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck.
“When officers, paramedics, and fire arrived on scene it was noticed that it was actually a cyclist that was struck by a transport truck,” Const. Sarah Patten told Global News.
“Despite everyone’s best efforts, the cyclist did succumb to their injuries at the scene and our major collision bureau was notified. We have recently learned that it was a male youth cyclist that was struck.”
Officers said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is co-operating with police. There’s no word on what charges, if any, the driver could face.
The circumstances leading up to the crash are unclear.
Roads were closed in the area for the investigation.
