Suspect arrested in Hamilton care home stabbing: police

Hamilton police have made an arrest in connection with a stabbing at a downtown care home.

Police say Jamie Lee Saulteaux, 23, was taken into custody without incident around 11 a.m. Tuesday after investigators say she was recognized by a concerned citizen.

The citizen told police the accused was standing outside a residence in the area of Arther Avenue North and Wilson Street.

Police had released Saulteaux’s picture on social media, hours after a stabbing occurred at Jerelday Lodge on Main Street East.

It is alleged that two residents of the care home were socializing around 1 a.m. Tuesday when the accused stabbed a 35-year-old man in what investigators called an unprovoked attacked, before she fled the scene.

The victim was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

Saulteaux will appear in court Wednesday to answer to charges of aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.
