Fawn rescue in Okanagan Lake caught on tape

Greg Clarke and some family friends were boating on Okanagan Lake recently when they spotted something swimming in the water.

As they got closer they realized it was a baby deer.

“My wife spotted this object in the water,” said Clarke, “and we all looked at the same time and realized it was a little fawn.”

The group got close to the fawn in their boat, and then one man jumped in the water and swam with the fawn.

“My buddy James [Zannet] put on a life jacket and swam over and grabbed it by the scruff of the neck,” said Clarke.

The little deer was exhausted.

Zannet was able to guide a rope around the fawn’s neck and then they pulled it to safety and put it in the boat.

“My wife came down and put a towel over its eyes because it was crying and it was in pretty rough shape,” added Clarke.

They took the animal to shore and left it in the care of a group of people.

There is no word on whether the fawn was reunited with its mother.

“It was in pretty rough shape,” said Zannet. “We couldnt’ see the mother, we would look for it, so I think it had been swimming out there a little while and didn’t have much time left.”
