Multi-purpose facility and high school reno coming to Martensville

SASKATOON – Officials gathered for a sod turning ceremony on Thursday for the new Martensville Athletic Pavilion, which will be attached to the soon-to-be renovated high school.

The new 50,000 square foot multi-purpose facility will be comparable to the Physical Activity Complex (PAC) at the University of Saskatchewan, featuring three full-size sports courts and a curved running track.

The cost of the facility is budgeted at $12.5 million. Martensville will fund $11.1 million of the project, while the ministry of education and Prairie Spirit School Division contributes the rest.

Construction on the new Martensville Athletic Pavilion is expected to be done by September 2014.

An estimated $26.4 million in new construction and renovations to Martensville High School are currently in the detailed design phase. Plans for the school include a new gym and performing arts theatre.

“The new facility and new construction and renovations to the high school will provide us with yet another venue for sport, improved spaces to educate our youth, and a place to enjoy arts and culture,” said Martensville Mayor Kent Muench,

The high school renovation and expansion projects will double the size of Martensville High School and are expected to be complete by fall 2016.
