Tony Tighe is the Global News Calgary’s Consumer Advocate. (See his reports online at the Consumer Beat section).

Tighe was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and travelled extensively in a military family when he was young. He’s lived in Germany; Toronto; Chibougamou, Quebec; Comox, British Columbia; Kapuskasing, Ontario; St. John’s (again); and Trenton, Ontario.

Tighe studied broadcasting at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario, and worked as a radio news reporter in Belleville; Cranbrook and Penticton B.C. and then in Calgary in 1985 with Cjay-92 FM.

In 1989 he made the switch to television and joined Global News in October 1999.

Tony received several national awards for radio and TV news investigations and feature reports. In 2001 he received the Better Business Bureau Ethics Award.

He is a volunteer reading tutor with the Calgary library, Read With Me program and supports other literacy causes.

Tony is married with 2 children.
