Vancouver Police are cracking down on noisy mufflers and exhausts on cars and motorcycles after receiving a deluge of complaints.
Police say they have received dozens of complaints about excessive noise from motorcycles and cars recently.
This weekend over 50 cars and motorcycles were tested for compliance, and 19 of them failed. Drivers were either fined $109 or ordered to have their muffler repaired.
Police say they have observed some motorcyclists riding around with earplugs because their own mufflers are too loud.
“This is a good time to remind the public that with the warm weather comes an increase in the number of motorcycles on the road,” says Staff Sergeant Howard Chow of the VPD Traffic Enforcement unit.
“We would like to remind riders to be safe and considerate of others while they are out enjoying the sun.”
