TORONTO – Police say a man and a woman have been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 26-month-old baby.
Officers were called to a hospital on Sunday at 5:43 p.m. where it is alleged the child showed signs of physical trauma.
An autopsy is being performed on 26-month-old Nicholas Cruz to determine the exact cause of death.
Marleny Cruz, 25, of Toronto, and Joel France, 36, of Toronto, have both been charged with second-degree murder.
France is additionally charged with assault.
The victim and the accused lived in the Walnut Street and Richmond Street West area.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who knew either of the accused to contact police.
