SASKATOON – A Saskatoon hospital needed to go the emergency room.
The Royal University Hospital started the week with the failure of a backup generator after a planned power outage.
That led to the breakdown of a number of key operating systems, including the registration system.

Then several surgeries were delayed because of a ventilation exchange malfunction, several units were without hot water, there was an electrical breakdown in the chemistry lab.
And during all that, there were large numbers of patients in the Emergency Department.
The Saskatoon Health Region’s Sandra Blevins says it’s signs of an aging infrastructure problem at the Royal University Hospital and hey need more funding from the province to prevent these
incidents from happening.
Blevins says there have been no reports of critical incidents or adverse events as a result of these issues.
