CALGARY – A Canadian bull rider injured during the Stampede rodeo is recovering after undergoing surgery, but won’t be returning to compete during the remainder of Stampede.

Jason Davidson, Roy’s agent, says the cowboy underwent surgery to repair broken vertebrae, and had to have two metal rods and eight screws installed.

He also suffered a broken jaw.

Roy was wearing a protective vest at the time of the accident, but Davidson says it did very little to protect the bull rider.

His family says he remains in high spirits despite the injuries he sustained.

Roy will not be competing in the remaining rodeo events at this year’s Calgary Stampede, and will remain at the Foothills Hospital for the weekend.
