Craven weekend is officially under way

REGINA- The official first day of Craven kicked off Thursday morning. Organizers estimate over 23,000 campers will be on site for the weekend.

Craven-goers stay in tents and campers but for the Bonner’s, being rained out multiple times in a tent, they upgraded to a trailer.

“Nature is nature, it is what it is, you kind of have to go with the flow and hope that mother nature doesn’t pour on ya,” said Vince Bonner, a camper.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Organizers say, without rain, it wouldn’t be craven. “We’re used to rain, and we’re used to water so we are just going to monitor the weather and if it happens then we’ll put our plan in place,” said Kim Blevins, Craven director of marketing and communications.

The heavy rain fall last week has already forced organizers to tweak the way camping is set up this year.

Blevins says she knows the rain could come again at any time. “People are instructed to go back to their camp sites, if we have to evacuate- I mean we have been in similar situations at other festivals they don’t typically evacuate the whole site- its just a matter of you go to your trailer and hunker down.”

The Bonner’s and the rest of the Craven-goers hope they never have to utilize the emergency exit plan.

According to Environment Canada, Thursday is the only day with rain for the Craven weekend, but as the saying goes in Saskatchewan, if you don’t like the weather just wait ten minutes.
