Hamilton firefighters battle large commercial fire near Tim Hortons Field

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate a large blaze at a commercial building in Hamilton, Ont.

Police and fire crews were called to 984 Barton St. East, down the road from Tim Hortons Field, just after 11 a.m. Friday for a multiple-alarm fire at the former Mr. Used building.

More than a dozen firefighting units were called to the scene.

Photos on social media showed a well-involved fire and a large plume of thick, black smoke billowing into the bright blue sky.

Police have closed Barton Street, between Cavell Avenue and Rosslyn Avenue, and say it will likely remain closed until Saturday morning.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Residents are being advised to stay away from the area.
